Understand Formula One Academy on track
As we know, F1 Academy became an all-female racing series in 2023, with Marta Garcia as the first-ever champion. Season 2 debuted in Jeddah at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix on 7 March 2024.
Drivers, Teams & Liveries
Since the first race is over, it is a good idea for fans to recall the rules and regulations. There are 5 teams, with 3 drivers in each team. Each driver must be between 16 and 25 years old to be eligible to compete. This year, there are several new drivers as well as returning drivers, such as Bianca Bustamente, Hamda Al Qubaisi, Amna Al Qubaisi and Abbi Pulling. Additionally, F1 Academy introduced wild card entries at certain races across the calendar. The wild card entries will be female racing drivers from the host region. The first wild card entry was at the first race, where Reema Juffali was given the massive opportunity to drive in F1 Academy.
For the first time ever, F1 Academy cars will have liveries from the 10 Formula One teams and other sponsors, such as Charlotte Tilbury, Puma, and Tommy Hilfiger.
Weekend format, Grid positions & Points
The race weekend will consist of two Free Practice sessions (40 minutes each), one Qualification session (30 minutes), and two races (30 minutes each). For the starting grid, the drivers’ fastest qualifying lap will set their position for Race 1, and their second fastest lap will set their position for Race 2.
Points will be awarded as follows:
2 points will be awarded for Pole position for Race 1 and Race 2.
1 point will be given to the fastest lap in each race, but the driver must finish in the top 10.
For Race 1 and 2, the top 10 drivers will be given 25, 18, 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 and 1 points respectively. For example: P10 – 1 point and P1 – 25 points.
FIA Super Licence Points
From the 2024 Drivers’ Standing, only the top 5 drivers will be given FIA Super Licence Points. The champion will receive 10 points, P2 will be given 7, and P3 will be given 5 points. P4 will receive 2 points, and P5 will receive 1 point.
Engine, Tyres & Performance
The car’s engine is an Autotecnica 4 cylinders turbo 1.4 litres, 174hp @5500rpm, with a top speed of 240 km/h. F1 Academy will also use Pirelli tyres. For more car and engine information, read F1 Academy’s tech specs.
